What a super day. I will be casting all day tomorrow in the garden so I can try out the techniques you taught us today. If we never catch two fish like that again we will always remember how special it was today. They were absolutely beautiful fish to catch on our very first casts. You are a great teacher. I recently spent a day learning to fly fish under the tuition of James Waltham. I have only ever tried it once as a child so it was most enjoyable to be taught by an expert. Jim showed me how to tie knots, which fly to use and styles of casting. His way of passing on his vast knowledge was done in such a way that I felt at ease throughout the day and I could always ask when I wasn't sure - he was always ready to help me. A most enjoyable experience and I learned quite a lot. It sure beat watching football or being dragged round the shops. I think I'll do it all over again soon. I'm now 'hooked' on fly fishing.
Having had lessons from you I know that I have been taught by the best. I am sure that your experience and knowledge of fly fishing is second to none. I now enjoy my fishing so much that I have given up golf.
Having recently spent a thoroughly enjoyable day learning to fly fish I was very impressed by James's friendly unassuming yet highly professional approach to the art of fly fishing...I was in no doubt that I was in the presence of an expert ! I learned so much on the day from setting up tackle, basic casting techniques, choosing the right fly and vitally important safety implications. James is nothing but thorough and he means for you to learn. As my confidence grew and the good natured banter flowed I was introduced to distance casting and line retrieval all made much simpler by James's natural teaching style. Even when my fly got entangled in hedges and trees James was always at hand to race to my rescue in his friendly non-judgemental manner with quiet, calm words of encouragement and continued support. Having now caught the fly fishing bug (fly) I am now looking forward to joining James on a guided trip to expand my fishing experience on one of the beautiful rivers of North Wales. Perhaps my next fish will be a salmon ! .
Although I had never fly-fished in my life I had always fancied fishing for trout from a boat. I was indeed fortunate to have James as my guide and we spent a wonderful day on Llyn Brenig. In spite of atrocious weather conditions, James made sure that I had a great time and I even had a few nice trout to take home. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he even arranged excellent accommodation for me. I was very impressed and would highly recommend his service. It was well worth the journey up from Cornwall. .
I was recently visiting family in the UK and enlisted the help of James for a fishing trip to the Welsh Dee. He has access to some lovely water in the upper river and we fished that stretch on a sunny day at the end of May.
The river had fined down after a small flood and an early run of sea trout and salmon had just arrived. We saw some of them moving around restlessly in the pools. Managed a few tugs and a heart stopping bow wave follow from a big sea trout, which followed my fly in to shallow water a rod length out, but turned away at the last minute ! There are also loads of wild brown trout and grayling in this stretch. It was a great day out and I can highly recommend James as a guide. He is patient, positive natured and good company and he really knows this stretch of the river.
I will be back ! .
